This app’s in-app currency – “sweatcoins”- can be used to purchase their sponsored prizes. These vary week to week from vitamins and phone cases to deals on products such as jewelry. If you have your eyes on the bigger prizes which right now include $1000 USD, an iPhone, a Samsung TV or an $1000 Delta Airlines voucher, you will have to be able to dish out 20 000 sweatcoins.

On the free Sweatcoin account (what they call “mover”) you can earn only up to 5 sweatcoins a day. You can upgrade to other Sweatcoin accounts by paying monthly with your sweatcoins (or with actual currency I’m assuming as well.) The highest earning Sweatcoin account available currently is the “breaker” account which allows you to earn up to 20 sweatcoins a day at a cost of 30 sweatcoins/month.

In addition to earning sweatcoins through walking outdoors, you can also earn them from Sweatcoin’s bonus program. This is a three-day earning program, the first day you earn 1 sweatcoin for watching an ad, the second day 2 and the third day 4. This means you can earn 7 bonus sweatcoins every three days.

On the free “mover” ACCOUNT

The basic formula for solving how many sweatcoins you could make in a certain period of time would be:

total sweatcoins goal = (# sweatcoins earned per day * # of days) + (Bonus sweatcoins earned per day * # of days)

You can use this equation to solve for how many days it will take you to earn any sweatcoins goal you have.

When you sign up you are automatically given the “mover” account which allows you to earn up to 5 sweatcoins a day. For this equation we will assume you actually earn those full 5 sweatcoins every day (which would be just over 5000 steps of outdoor walking a day.) Then you have to factor in the bonus sweatcoins, assuming you get the full 7 sweatcoins every three days. We will make our variable (y) the possible number of days and the total sweatcoins earned our goal of 20 000 (for the bigger prizes. Our equation would be:

That now makes our equation for the “mover” account: 20 000= 5y + (7/3)y

To solve for y you would have 20 000=(22/3)y and then 20 000/(22/3)=y which would give you your final answer of y=2727.27. It will take you around 2727 days on the free account to make $1000. This is equivalent to around 7 and a half years.

On the “breaker” (highest earning) account

On the highest earning account you can earn up to 20 sweatcoins a day. That being said there will be a 30 sweatcoin a month fee we will have to factor into our eqation.

Let’s take our same equation: total sweatcoins goal = (# sweatcoins earned per day * # of days) + (Bonus sweatcoins earned per day * # of days) and factor in the 30 sweatcoin monthly charge. Assuming every month has 30 days, this charge essentially comes out to 1 sweatcoin a day that you will lose. Our equation can now look like this:

total sweatcoins goal = (# sweatcoins earned per day * # of days) + (Bonus sweatcoins earned per day * # of days) – (sweatcoin charge / day * # of days)

To fill in the equation: 20 000 = 20y + (7/3)y – y

To solve: 20 000 = (64/3)y. To solve for the number of days it will take to earn your goal amount: 20 000/(64/3)=y so y=952.380952381. It will take around 952 days to earn 20 000 sweatcoins. This is equivalent to just over 2 and a half years.

Now this is assuming you are remembering to watch the ads to earn the bonus every day and walking a little over 20 000 steps outdoors a day.

Is it worth it?

If your goal is to make money, don’t wait on Sweatcoin. To earn money or bigger prizes it will take 2 and a half years assuming you are using it to its full possibilities every single day. That being said, I will keep this app on my phone and continue to naturally enjoy walking until maybe 3 or 4 years down the line, I can finally cash in my $1000.
